Essential role of oil and gas in focus at Australian Energy Producers Conference 2026

Adelaide will become the centre of Australia’s energy conversation today as around 2000 delegates gather for the opening of the 2026 Australian Energy Producers Conference and Exhibition — the nation’s premier oil and gas industry event.

Held under the theme Energy Evolved, the three-day event comes at a critical time for Australia’s energy sector amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty, growing global energy demand for oil and gas and rapid technological change reshaping energy systems around the world.

The conference brings together key political leaders, global industry executives, investors, innovators, researchers and energy experts to examine the forces shaping the future of energy, and the essential role of oil and gas in delivering reliable and affordable energy for Australia and the region.

Among the action-packed line-up of speakers, the conference will hear from South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas, Opposition Leader Angus Taylor, Assistant Minister for Resources Senator Anthony Chisholm, One Nation Leader Senator Pauline Hanson, Queensland Minister for Natural Resources Dale Last, and more.

Australian Energy Producers Chief Executive Samantha McCulloch said the conference will focus on the opportunities and challenges for Australia’s energy future in an increasingly complex and competitive environment.

“The global energy landscape is evolving rapidly and the stakes – and opportunities – for Australia’s future energy security and economic growth have never been higher,” Ms McCulloch said.

“The discussions taking place in Adelaide this week will examine the policy settings, investment frameworks and technological developments needed to ensure Australia remains a reliable and competitive energy supplier for decades to come.”

The conference program features more than 150 speakers across plenary sessions, panel discussions and technical forums covering energy security, geopolitics, artificial intelligence, market reform, exploration, investment, decarbonisation and emerging technologies.

Dedicated sessions throughout the week will also examine the Federal Government’s Gas Market Review and the future of Australia’s east coast gas market, including the policy and regulatory settings needed to support future supply and long-term investment certainty.

The exhibition floor will showcase the latest technologies, services and innovations supporting the sector, from digital solutions and operational technologies to infrastructure, logistics and supply chain capability.

The 2026 Australian Energy Producers Conference and Exhibition runs from 18–21 May at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
