Australian Energy Producers Queensland Director Keld Knudsen said the state continued to do the heavy lifting on boosting east coast gas supply.
“Queensland gas supports homes, manufacturers, power generation and LNG exports, while delivering jobs and investment across regional communities,” Mr Knudsen said.
“What matters now is bringing more supply to market. That means reducing unnecessary duplication, improving coordination and giving investors the confidence to progress new supply projects.”
Mr Knudsen said the Bill would help streamline state-significant project development, improve infrastructure coordination and support the investment needed to bring new gas supply to market, while maintaining appropriate safeguards.
“Queensland has significant new oil and gas opportunities, including in the Taroom Trough which can help deliver the next wave of supply for the domestic market and LNG exports,” he said.
“The State Government is taking practical steps to increase investment certainty. That is exactly the sort of supply-focused approach the Federal Government should also be pursuing, as well as Victoria and NSW.
“Instead of adding more intervention, uncertainty and complexity, governments should focus on enabling new supply and supporting responsible development.
“Queensland has the resources and opportunities to deliver the next generation of energy projects, but investors need clear, coordinated and practical approval pathways to turn those opportunities into new projects.
“Australian Energy Producers looks forward to working constructively with the Queensland Government, Parliament and other stakeholders as the legislation progresses.”
