APOGCE 2020 Celebrates Industry Collaboration
The 2020 Asia Pacific Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition (APOGCE) begins today and will be held virtually until November 19. Organised and run by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), APOGCE is a place for oil and gas professionals from the all over the world to come together and share their ideas on how the industry can improve and adapt to new challenges and opportunities.
The theme of this year’s event is “Thriving in the New Energy Landscape”, in recognition of the transformational changes being brought to the industry by digitalisation and other emerging technologies.
With eight plenary and panel sessions and more than 80 leading companies delivering some 200 presentations, APOGCE is sure to deliver on a packed schedule.
“’Business as usual’ is simply no longer an option,” APOGCE Chairs Pieter Jagtenberg (Woodside Energy) and Bernadette Cullinane (Deloitte) stated. “Meeting the many challenges ahead demands transformation and innovation across the value chain. New resources must be developed, new markets explored, and collaboration stepped up – within the wider industry and across the stakeholder spectrum.”
The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region is an oil and gas powerhouse. It is the world’s leading region for LNG exports, accounting for more than 37 percent of global LNG exports by volume in 2019 according to figures from the International Group of LNG Importers (GIIGNL). It also hosts some of the world’s largest LNG importers by volume, including China, Japan and South Korea, whose strong relationships with exporters have helped to boost global LNG exports to 354.7 million tonnes in 2019, representing a roughly 13 percent increase over 2018 and the sixth consecutive year of growth (IGU).
More than half of APAC LNG exports are provided by Australia alone, which continually contests Qatar as the world’s leading LNG exporter, and other LNG-exporting APAC nations such as Malaysia (the world’s fifth largest exporter last year), Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, have also significantly helped to secure APAC’s leading status in this arena.
