In an interview with the ABC’s 7.30 NSW program, NSW Chief Scientist Professor Mary O’Kane has said she believes the risks associated with coal seam gas operations in NSW “can be completely manageable”.
Professor O’Kane also said that there is already “a lot of good data” on groundwater in the Namoi River region of northern NSW. But she said more data should be acquired and different data sets should be integrated to give a clearer regional picture.
“Through the Office of Water and the good offices of a lot of farmers and users of water up in the region, there are actually some wonderful studies of the area. So there is a lot of data, but it is disparate,” she said.
