The Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) today welcomed legislation passed by the State Government that will greatly reduce the footprint of gas projects in regional Queensland.
The Mines Legislation (Streamlining) Amendment Bill 2012 makes a number of changes to the Petroleum and Gas Act that will enable industry to effectively move water and brine across tenement boundaries for treatment and reuse.
APPEA Chief Operating Offer Eastern Region, Rick Wilkinson, said: “The legislation will remove a number of barriers that hamper the treatment of water for use by irrigators and in town water supplies.
“The need for additional water and brine treatment plants and other associated infrastructure will be greatly reduced.
“That’s good news for the environment and good news for those seeking to invest in Queensland.” Download PDF
